Prince George’s County, MD Small Business Day with Congresswoman Donna Edwards

On May 18, 2010, The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU), in conjunction with Congresswoman Edwards, presented Prince George’s County Small Business Day: Connecting Businesses with Opportunities.  The purpose of this event was to connect small businesses with federal, state, and local government contracting opportunities, while educating small business owners on available recourses.

“We encourage small business owners to take advantage of all the resources the government has in place to help grow their businesses.  Today is a great opportunity to speak directly with procurement officers, trade associations, the Small Business Administration, and the U.S. Department of Transportation about contracting with the government and getting the capital needed to finish the job,” remarked Brandon Neal, OSDBU Director.

Following opening remarks by Director Neal, Congresswoman Edwards, SBA Regional Director Bridget Bean, and MD DOT Deputy Secretary Harold Bartlett, small business participants were provided the opportunity to meet with representatives from the federal government, various state agencies, and small business resource centers.  In addition to the informational exhibits, OSDBU presented workshops on Access to Capital and How to Contract with the Government.

Over 200 small business owners participated in the event which took place in Oxon Hill, MD.
